One to Forget

Verizon 2-Man 40K TT
May 8, 2010 – Garden Prairie, IL
Masters 30+ – 7th – 1:00:18
246 watts – 23.4 MPH

A quick race report about the first TTT of the year. I was very happy to have my teammate, Larry Stroegauer, partner up with me for the race. All of the other usual suspects were out of town or on the DL, and Larry didn’t flinch when I posted a request for a teammate.

I won’t get into the details of the race other than the conditions really sucked. Winds were 25-30 MPH out of the west, which made for a horrible headwind and crosswind on the return trip. We both had it mentally and physically for the last 10K and pretty much just sat up and were happy to finish. We still manged to have a decent time thanks to our efforts earlier in the race.

This was one of those races you want to forget about. My arms hurt for days from trying to keep my bike upright in the crosswinds.  With crappy weather for most of the spring races, I’m hoping we’re earning better weather for later in the season.

A big thanks to the Verizon Cycling team for hosting the race and having live results at the finish (which was super cool)!
