Blackstar (Not Gangsta)

Blackstar Canyon Road is a popular MTB route here in Orange County. The grades aren’t too steep, it’s fireroad, closed to motos, and has great views. For whatever reason, I had never made it to Beek’s Place before. I’ve tried a few times and either succumbed to the heat (when it hit 90s in the summer) or the grades (after hard rides the day before). Today, I think I timed it right. Although, I had done a hard road ride yesterday, I had enough climbing under my belt from my usual El Moro Canyon route to push through. Plus, temps were only in the 60s. Here’s my route and some photos (please pardon the bad iPhone 3GS camera). I can see the NEXRAD radar dome from our home. It’s hard to believe it was in the 60s when I road today and is supposed to have snow here on Tuesday (then 80s this weekend). BTW, I tried riding to Sierra Peak, but was too tired.

For an interesting history of Beek’s Place (at the end of Blackstar Canyon Road), read this.
