Shearing the Pete

I’ve actually forgotten what it’s like to have leg hair.  Yes, I once had legs like a forest.  Now, I’m only reminded about what I used to have when I’m out in the cold and I miss my extra layer of installation.

This post is mainly for my coworkers who still don’t understand why I shave my legs.  Good question.  I don’t know.  It really has nothing to do with aerodynamics, it’s more of a cycling tradition–kind of like chew in baseball.  However, shaved legs do help with massage and recovery from road rash.

Shaved legs are of course popular with cyclists, triathletes, and swimmers (where you don’t want the extra drag in the water), but more runners are shaving the legs nowadays (and chests too for heart rate monitors). A few of my teammates from college shaved their legs and I vowed I never would.  Well, that was before I took up cycling.  So, two years ago, I bit the bullet.  Now, I shave about twice a week.  Weird, huh?

I leave you with some photos from my first shearing, as well as some advice.  If you run out of shaving gel, Caress soap works really well!  And, if you’re questioning my manhood, how many people do you know who listen to Rage Against the Machine when they shave their legs…
