My car was packed and ready to go Saturday AM, but I wasn’t. Even though tt was in the 20s outside, the indoor race would have been in the 80s. Hmmm…nice, but do I really want to drive about an hour for a 15 minute race. Not really. Had it been January, I would have jumped out of bed and darted out the door. Now, it was March and I just wanted to ride outside. This winter has sucked. Interestingly, ABD only had about 160 riders for the last indoor TT of the year, while they normally draw over 200. I wonder if I was the only one feeling this way.
Well, I didn’t ride outdoors, but I had a great workout on the Computrainer. I opted to use my Ergvideo “Lake Placid with A Champ” ride, because I need to get some threshold work in while not doing yet another interval workout. The ride is about 2.5 hours and you’re essentially racing with the Ironman Lake Placid course with Greg Reain, the 2006 Canandian cycloross champ. Here’s the catch…this isn’t a leisurely ride (note, I said “racing”). You’re hammering the course right at the threshold barrier. Sure, I could cheat and set my AT threshold lower, but what’s the fun in that. I felt pretty good the first part of the ride, but I finally started to die after 1.5 hours at sub-LT (normalized power = 267 watts). I wish I could have ridden the full course, but now have something to aspire too at the level. My props to Greg for one heck on an effort and thanks to Ergvideo for creating this workout.
When I saw the results from the indoor TT later that night, I was even happier that I opted to stay home. I might have lost a few MATTS points, but I think this workout will help me out more later in the season.

267 squirrels is a lot. You’re going to be super this year. Thanks for the comment; it is indeed only the start of a long season. Get excited!
