Nope, not that kind of fit…bike fit! Getting set up correctly on the bike is a lot like finding the right pair of jeans or the perfect fitting shoes. Just when you think you’ve found the right one, you decide to keep looking.
I spent a good part of the afternoon at Mission Bay on Monday going over the aero position on my TT bike. I had felt it was little too “comfortable” during my last TT of 2007. I finally got around to going to see what they could do. Nate got me up on the bike and swapped in a steeper stem to get me lower in the front, then took my saddle higher and shifted the pedals slightly. I’ve posted an older picture from last fall on the top to compare to my new position on the bottom. The visual difference isn’t that great, but you’ll notice my back is slightly flatter and I’m lower in the front. I don’t know how much time this will help me save, but I will definitely need to work on my core strength. I did an easy hour in this position last night and my legs were definitely sore!
I’ll you know how things go. And, speaking of time trials, here’s one of my favorite shots of 2008 Amgen Tour of California prologue winner, Fabian Cancellara (who also won the 2007 Tour de France prologue). People often comment that we look like aliens in our TT gear, but I think Fabian looks like he’s from the movie Alien in this shot…
