Sophomore Alana Moss captured three first places as well as a second to lead the Beloit College women’s track team to second place in the Carthage College Invitational Saturday in Kenosha, Wis. Moss won the triple jump (10.5 meters) and the long jump (4.70), and took second in the javelin (26.83) to rack up enough points to win the heptathlon title with a 3,506 total.
The Buccaneers finished with 139 points. Only host Carthage, with 294, had more in the six-team meet. Carthage’s men also won with 290 points. Beloit was fifth with 58.
In all, Beloit’s women took five firsts. Michelle Mitchell was also first in the 5,000 meters (19:39.83) and JoAnn Fritz won the 100 dash (13.58 seconds).
Paula Sadler was second in the 10,000 (44:20.6) and the 1,600 relay team of Mandy Koch, Jaylyn Bunning, Amy O’Neill and Naomi Eisenman was also second.
For the men, Pete Allen was first in the 10,000 meters (34:02.2) and Todd Braje was first in the 5,000 (16:31.18).
The tennis team didn’t fare as well, getting swept 8-0 by Elmhurst on Saturday.
