Senior Michelle Mitchell set a meet record in the 10,000 meters and senior Gavin King took first place in the pole vault to highlight Beloit College’s efforts in the 1996 Wisconsin Private Colleges Meet Saturday.
The Buccaneers hosted the eight-team meet at Strong Stadium.
Mitchell, coming off a title in the Herb Hodges Invitational, won the 10,000 meters in 40 minutes and 14.66 seconds. Beloit took fourth place in the women’s meet with 85 points. Carthage was the winning team with 212, followed by Carroll (148) and Ripon (93).
King, a Brodhead native, went 14-feet in the pole vault as the only winner for the Beloit men. They were sixth with 69 points. Carthage also won the men’s meet with 195 points, 60 more than runnerup Carroll.
Beloit’s Pete Allen took second place in the 10,000 and Joel Wirtz was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Todd Braje was third in the 5000 and fourth went to Josh Dewar (5000), Mark Haag (long jump) and Erich Parpart (pole vault).
Sophomore Alanna Moss was a top point-producer for the Beloit women. She took second in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump, fourth in the high jump and fifth in the 400 hurdles.
JoAnn Fritz was third in the 100 and fourth in the 200.
Next up for the Bucs is the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships.
