Beloit College men 8th in MWC’s track meet
WAUKESHA _ Monmouth swept both the men’s and women’s titles in the Midwest Conference Track Championships which concluded Saturday at Waukesha North High School.
The meet was hosted by Carroll College.
Monmouth had 193.5 points in the men’s competition to easily outdistance runnerup Carroll (158.5). Monmouth’s women had 174 points and Grinnell was a distant second with 104.5.
Beloit College’s men finished eighth in the 11-team meet with 38 points, just one behind seventh-place Ripon and seven behind sixth-place Knox. The Buccaneers were ninth in the women’s race with 34 points, three behind eighth-place St. Norbert.
The top efforts for the Bucs men were second places by Gavin King in the pole vault and Todd Braje in the 10,000 meters.
King, the indoor champion at 14-6, hadn’t practiced much all week due to a sinus infection. He went 13-6. The winning height was 14-feet.
Braje was second in the 10,000 in 32:53.48, while teammate Peter Allen took fourth in 33:46.00. Braje was also fourth in the 5,000 meters (15:45.88).
Mitchell was runner-up in the 10,000 in 39:54.37 and took fourth in the 5,000 meters (19:27).
Alanna Moss was fourth in the triple jump, fifth in the long jump and tied for fifth in the high jump with teammate Paula Sadler.
The conference meet concluded the track season for the Buccaneers.
